CEREC

Traditional dental crowns were the standard treatment for a long time. The entire process took several weeks, 2 trips to the dentist and not to mention the discomfort of dental impressions.
You may wonder how this same-day Cerec restoration works. Read on to know more.

CEREC is short for “Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics”, although it can also stand for Ceramic Reconstruction.

With the CEREC technology, we use advanced equipment to be able to get that perfect dental crown in an hour or two. This is made possible via

Computer-Aided-Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing or CAD/CAM dentistry to achieve the precise fit and shade quickly. Since the entire restoration process happens in our clinic, the patient will have complete tooth restoration in a single visit.

The process involves 3 simple steps:

  1. Digital Impression with Primescan
After the tooth is prepared, we use a Primescan intraoral scanner to capture a digital impression of the mouth. With its Smart Pixel Sensor and the dynamic depth scan technology, it captures 50,000 images per second. This is done in a matter of minutes.

  2. Digital Construction of the Dental Crown and Milling
The digital impression is then transferred to the CEREC software and a crown is constructed digitally. The crown is then milled from a ceramic block in a separate machine, and cured in a furnace. This is done in under an hour.

  3. Dental Crown Cemented to the Tooth
The crown is then checked, polished, and cemented onto the tooth ready for use.
