River Dental Gympie

Children Dentistry

Did you know that how you care for your children’s teeth when they are young will affect their dental health for the rest of their life?

Healthy baby teeth and gums are essential for the development of speech and future adult teeth.

By introducing your child to Riverdental from an early age, they will learn dental visits are a normal and a pleasant part of life. Doing this will help form healthy dental habits and will reduce the chance of your child experiencing dental anxiety later in life which can be debilitating and lead to later problems.

Riverdental recommends that ideally, your child’s first visit should correspond with their first birthday and is often just an introduction to our team and practice (playing with our Reception staff and toys in the waiting room). You may like to incorporate your child’s first appointment with your own regular check-up, as seeing you have your teeth examined will make them more relaxed and receptive to receiving the treatment they require.

What is involved in your Child’s Dentist appointment?

During your child’s exam, the Dentist will be looking to ensure your children’s gums are healthy and teeth are coming through straight, we will also monitor their jaw and facial bone structure for the development of alignment problems or crowding of teeth, which may indicate a future need for orthodontic treatment. Our main focus is to educate your children on preventative dental hygiene practices which are required to keep their smile healthy and clean.

Early Intervention Dentistry

Riverdental will focus on early diagnosis, the teeth and jaws are easier to guide into their optimal position, greatly reducing the need for orthodontic work later on. We refer to this as early intervention. The earlier a problem is identified the easier it will be to fix. Younger patients such as children and adolescents have softer gum tissue and the relationship between their teeth and their jaw bone is easier to alter. When straightening the teeth it is much easier with younger patients, which is why orthodontics is recommended for adolescents.

Caring for your child’s teeth at home

A large part of your child’s oral health will involve you actively encouraging positive dental habits at home. This means making sure your child brushes their teeth every morning after breakfast and again every evening after dinner. Riverdental recommends teaching your child to floss when their teeth develop closely together (which occurs any time between the ages of two and six).

Dental sealants are also known as fissure sealants. Children’s teeth are more susceptible to decay than adult teeth as the enamel is softer and more porous. This means it does not take as long for the acid to wear through the enamel. For this reason, sealants are sometimes placed over hard-to-reach dips in children’s molars. The sealant seals over the dip and makes cleaning easier. This reduces the amount of decay as teeth are generally being cleaned properly every time. A common preventative treatment for dentists to use for children.

At Riverdental we accept Child Dental Benefits Scheme. To find out if your child is eligible for the $1000.00 please call our Reception staff on 5482 5454.Click here for further details
